If you're thinking of updating the look of your home, redecorating or changing the mood or the theme of a particular bedroom you will probably end up buying home interior magazines, where you can get so many great ideas. Magazines always show beautiful photos of houses decorated by award winning designers, where they mix stunning furniture pieces, mirrors and accessories impossible not to fall in love with.
But replicating the look or the mood in your own home isn't always that easy, and to be able to do it within a budget is even more challenging.
A great way to update the look of your home is renewing your lighting. Invest in new lamps and chandeliers, and create a new atmosphere for your surroundings.
Interior design is a vast and complicated discipline, and lighting is one of the most exciting variables in home interiors. There is a whole world to discover when you step in a lighting shop: table lamps, floor lamps, chandeliers, hanging lights... Light plays an important part in home interiors, and the items you choose can be magical in a room.
First of all it is essential you decide what you want to achieve with your lighting. If you want to illuminate a room in general, you should look at hanging lights and chandeliers. Hanging lights are usually more modern and simple than chandeliers, but pretty and crisp, like a nice glass pendant ball. Chandeliers are more lavish and luxurious, and can have from 3 arms up to 12 or even more. Considering that every arm will carry a bulb, a 12 arm chandelier can light up a huge palace room. Another benefit is that although chandeliers have traditionally looked glamorous and old fashioned, nowadays there are some fantastic modern chandeliers where steel and glass meet to uncover a world of possibilities and looks. Chandeliers are no longer just made for Georgian or Victorian properties, they are made for lofts and modern living. You can find them in every colour and shape, every size and material. Grand chandeliers often become the focal point of a room, bringing a dull surrounding back to life. Its effect can be magical.
If you want to provide strong localised light for specific tasks, such as studying, reading or writing, you will need a table lamp or a floor lamp. Again, the array of possibilities is greater than you would think. With table lamps you will be spoilt for choice: chrome, glass, plastic... You can choose from a beautiful and contemporary chrome lamp, to a more conventional and stunning Venetian style table lamp. They are great on a writing desk, or a side table. They bring light only where you want, creating different moods in the same room.
If you prefer a floor lamp, again you will have problems choosing, as there are so many different shapes and styles in the market. Arco lamps and Tripod lamps are very popular at the moment, but you can also choose a more traditional floor lamp with a pretty shade.
The way you light up your home will reflect who you are, and those lamps and chandeliers will bring personality and character. So instead of trying to emulate the examples in glossy home interior magazines, just pick up a few ideas, and light them up!
